Ater fort is situated deep inside the ravines of Chambal the intriguing fort was built during 1664-1668. Recommended for adventure seekers and history lovers it is about 35 kms to the west of Bhind district.One can explore around and see places like Raja Ka Bangla, Badan Singh Ka Mahal, Khooni Darwaza, Hathiapor, Rani Ka Bangla and 'Barah Khamba Mahal' situated inside the Fort. Far from the maddening crowds of the city one can lazily roam around and enjoy the peace & calm of this place. Once can also visit another fort nearby which was built by Bhadoriya King in 1654-1684 it now has a museum being run by District Archaeological Association, Bhind. Here you can get the glimpses of the bygone era. Another interesting place to visit is the Fort of Gohad with beautiful fine carvings engraved on the walls of the Mahal. Witness the living example of the exquisite Iranian Art in the 'Kachhari Mahal' present inside the fort. A historical monument built in 1766 A.D, Chhatri of Malhar Rao Holkar is adorned with beautiful carvings of floral and leaf patterns. The Chhatri built by Ahilya Bai is a glaring example of Maratha architecture. Climb up to the first storey of the chhatri where there is a pillared hall decorated with beautiful paintings.
